Abstract
The efficient working and integration of wind farms in the power generation sector needs great technological advances in the monitoring of wind farms to produce consistent power. By using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in wind farms, real-time monitoring is possible. Wireless Sensor nodes are prone to energy drainage and failure over a long time periods due to continuous data transmission & thus resulting into energy imbalances among the sensor nodes. This can lead to reduced network lifetime of the system in general. We propose a scheme for nodes deployment and an application-specific protocol Network-lifetime Enhancing Tri-level Clustering & Routing Protocol (NETCRP) which uses three-level hierarchy, spatial distribution of sensor nodes and also the current energy levels of the node for clustering and information routing. Thus this protocol utilises the best of all methods and provides better energy efficiency and an increased network lifetime compared to the widely adopted LEACH protocol.
