  • Abstract
For analysing the correct health status of heart, electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most important physiological parameter. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) obtained from QRS complex is a prominent tool for analysing various diseases. The aim of this paper is to describe an algorithm for finding average HRV for a given ECG signal and propose an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for the same. This algorithm first De-Noises the signal using standard time domain filters and then finds average HRV for time interval of every 8 seconds. In this way it reduces the ECG signal length to be analysed, without losing the original trend of variation in Heart Rate (HR). A wide range of ECG samples obtained from Physionet were used for testing the algorithm. The mean of correlation by this algorithm for a data set of more than 10 patients was found to be 0.9808.
