Abstract
The paper puts forward a method of spatial data conversion based on GML (Geography Markup Language) which has a uniform data model that can describe geographic feature. The multi-source and heterogeneous spatial data on the internet is encoded into a GML file which is a bridge between the different spatial data formats. The GML file will be interpreted into Java document flow in order to achieve other format spatial data. The exchanged java application can run on the web using Java web start technique. Depending on the GML standard, GIS client will implement spatial data transformation and data sharing. In this paper, the ArcGIS shape file data was converted into MapInfo data using GML technology.
