Abstract :
The design and numerical modelling of a mm-wave input coupler for use on a W-band (94GHz) gyrotravelling wave amplifier (gyro-TWA) are presented. The design is based on a rectangular-to-circular T-junction with methods of energy transfer directionality employed to achieve a high coupling coefficient. A 3-port coupler with a step-down cut-off waveguide is demonstrated. A broadband reflector is optimized to take the place of the cut-off waveguide in a bid to enlarge the beam tunnel and, hence, reduce alignment difficulty.
