Evaluation of RSSI-based human tracking

This paper evaluates a location and tracking system built on an existing wireless local area network (WLAN). The tracking system is implemented without any additional hardware and is implementabile in any WLAN environment with minor verification of basestation positioning. The tracking system utilizes the easily extractable signal strength values of the WLAN in order to calculate a position estimate for the observed target. This tracking system is designed to work within predefined surroundings, such as offices, hospitals, prisons etc., with an accuracy of one room.
