Abstract :
Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETS) [1] are infrastructure-less self-organizing rapidly deployable wireless networks. Applications include disaster mitigation, military operations, wireless sensor networks etc. All these application require energy efficient protocols to improve the lifetime of the network. Routing is one of the key issues in MANETs [1] because of the highly dynamic and distributed nature of nodes, especially energy efficient routing. If a node runs out of energy the probability of network partitioning will be increased since every mobile node has limited power supply. Energy depletion has become one of the main threats to the lifetime of the adhoc network. So the routing in a MANET [1] should be in such a way that it will use the remaining battery power in an efficient way to increase the lifetime of the adhoc network. In this paper we have analysed protocols based on transmission control approach and load distribution approach. In the end we have proposed a new protocol which is actually the modified version of the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) [2] protocol to improve the life time of the MANET. [1]
