Abstract
MES (Manufacturing Execution Support) is a methodology for the integrated automation of batch production plants in process industries. It combines process control with control of business processes in the production area and links production processes with the business activities of the enterprise. The present contribution gives an introduction on MES and shows the role of MES as a link between enterprise resources planning (ERP) functions and process control.
