Abstract
A new rotor position sensor, which has the same configuration with the traditional switched reluctance motor (SRM), is proposed in this paper. The modulation and demodulation circuits are developed for position signal encoding and a method based on the coordinate transformation is proposed for the position signal decoding. Therefore, the rotor position of a second SRM, connected on the same shaft with the sensor, could be measured. This sensor possesses most of the advantages of a SRM, such as robust structure and harsh environmental adaption. Experimental results are provided to verify the validity of the proposed sensor.
