Abstract :
Wireless networks have been recently deployed for industrial monitoring and process applications. They are generally called wireless field networks. Reliable and low-latency communications are the main concerns in these networks. There have been standardization efforts for wireless field networks which resulted in two standards, namely WirelessHART and ISA100. However, in both of these standards, the routing and scheduling are left open to manufacturers. In this paper, we consider two routing schemes for reliable packet forwarding considering the MAC layer constraints of these two standards. In the first scheme, reliability is more highlighted through the definition of the link level protection. We call this scheme Reliable Second-order connection degree Routing (RSR). We provide a mathematical analysis for the packet loss probability in this scheme which is also validated by the simulation results. We then propose a scheduling algorithm to use for this routing scheme. In the second routing scheme, in order to obtain low delay in end-to-end communications, path level protection for each node is considered. We adopt the simulation results to first validate our model and also compare these two schemes.
