Abstract :
We have performed preliminary studies to understand the recently suggested ferromagnetism in Cr2O3 thin films. These films have potential in spin-electronics because of their inherent magnetoelectric and piezomagnetic properties but our density-functional calculations indicate that the spin structure is ferrimagnetic rather than ferromagnetic.
