Abstract
It has been found that rare earth based metallic glasses manifested large magetocaloric effect over much wider temperature range than most of the crystalline materials. It was mainly attributed to their unique microstructure-a long range disorder and a short range order. In this work, we investigated the magnetocaloric effect in Gd54Ho6Co25Al14Si amorphous ribbons. A large magnetic entropy change and a relative high refrigerant capacity were observed. The critical behavior was studied near the phase transition temperature.
