Abstract :
This paper performs a quantitative comparison between a DSPM motor, and the Prius-IPM motor that is used in the Prius hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). For fair comparison, the two motors are designed with the same phase current, current density, and overall dimensions. We have firstly simulated the Prius-IPM motor and compared the results with the data obtained from previous research. The results agree well with each other. Then, we use the same method to simulate and optimize the DSPM motor for the application of EDVs. The DSPM is optimally designed based on the same parameters as the Prius-IPM.
