Abstract :
Due to the increasing of natural disasters, a novel localization system for search and rescue would be developed. Considering the popularity of mobile phones, the radio signal generated by the mobile devices can be utilized for rescue and localization. This paper presents a phone-based localization system for search and rescue purpose and the studies of radio channel characteristics through both theoretical and experimental research. In consideration of substantial obstacles in ruins, the radio channel will induce a complicated attenuation. The transmission of plane wave through a homogeneous and isotropic dielectric layer is theoretically investigated, and the measurements of channel frequency response are conducted to study the channel propagation characteristics, and to analyze the penetrating loss caused by the ceramic.
