Abstract
An Mn-Sb alloy was isothermally annealed in a semisolid state without and with a high magnetic field. The effect of the high magnetic field on the evolution of the crystal orientation of ferromagnetic Mn-Sb particles during their coarsening process was investigated. The effect of the high magnetic field on the magnetic property of the treated alloys was studied. With the application of the high magnetic field, the Mn-Sb particles were orientated with their c-axes perpendicular to the applied magnetic field. The orientation degree of the particles increased with increasing annealing time. The magnetic field-treated alloys showed a magnetically anisotropic behavior. A processing route for producing magnetic particle-reinforced compounds is proposed.
