Abstract
This paper addresses the study of the existing dynamic interaction phenomena between control devices of variable speed wind generators and conventional generators embedded in power systems. A direct-drive wind generation system with a permanent magnet synchronous generator has been chosen to make the study because of the relative complexity of the back-to-back converters used to make the grid connection. Dynamic models of generators and their controls are implemented in a MATLAB-based digital program suitable for performing large scale power system dynamic simulations. Based on this modeling and implementation, a simple and effective numerical procedure is proposed to assess an interaction level index between the generators´ controller. Lastly, the IEEE 14-bus benchmark system is employed to show the usefulness of the proposed method.
