  • Abstract
The impact of the increasing photo-voltaic generation on the primary frequency response of an isolated power system is examined. The installed PV capacity of a small power system, with a peak load of 250 MW, is increased from 70 MW to 190 MW. Then, the evolution of the primary frequency response following unit outages is studied. In this work, the simulation of one year day-ahead scheduling, followed by an exhaustive contingency analysis, is proposed to statistically characterize the response of the primary frequency regulation, over different PV integration scenarios. The main contribution of this work is an integrated vision of the economical optimization that defines generation schedules and the primary frequency response. Although the results might be strongly dependent on the considered mix, the simulations showed declining behaviour as a consequence of the commitment decision changes. This is consistent with operational issues reported in recent literature.
