Abstract
Municipal solid waste (MSW) production increased significantly with the rapid development of urbanization of China. Disposal of MSW is the main environmental problems in China. There are complicated biochemical and mechanical coupled behaviors in landfills due to degradation of MSW. Prediction of these coupled behaviors by using computer simulation is very important for the operation and management of landfills. A biochemo-hydro-mechanical (BCHM) coupled model is proposed to analyze the biochemical and mechanical coupled behaviors in landfills. Computer simulation is used to solve the coupled model via finite element method. Acidification inhibition and relief in landfills are simulated, the simulation results demonstrate that leach ate treatment can relieve acidification inhibition in landfills effectively and accelerate settlement of landfills.
