Abstract
A curl antenna printed within a grounded cylindrical dielectric substrate is analyzed efficiently using the method of moments (MoM). The antenna consists of a single Archimedean spiral arm printed on the cylindrical surface which is fed through the substrate using a radial probe, and a rigorous model is developed for this feeding probe. The cylindrical media is modeled using dyadic Green´s functions (DGF), where a novel asymptotic extraction approach and the generalized pencil of functions (GPOF) method are employed to expedite the analysis. Computations are compared with those of antennas in equivalent planar structures, as well as with the results of commercial software, and good agreement is achieved in all cases.
