Abstract
Highlights the latest developments in consumer audio and specifically in DVD-Audio and SACD. The DVD-Audio specification allows for up to 24-b PCM data and uses the Meridian lossless packing (MLP) algorithm to provide up to six channels of high-quality, multichannel audio at sampling rates of up to 96 kHz for six channels or 192 kHz for two channels. Super-audio CD (SACD), introduced in March 1999, integrates a variety of new technologies, such as the hybrid disc, direct stream digital (DSD), and direct stream transfer coding.
