Abstract
Digital-computer applications to power system operation allow system operators to manage their increasingly complex systems with increased efficiency and reliability. This article takes the perspective of one power system operator who was fortunate to have been involved in the design, construction, and operation of four generations of operating centers, and who witnessed the evolution of electric system control from limited manual methods to sophisticated system operation management facilities
