Abstract
The noise power available from any antenna which is conjugately matched is known from thermodynamic considerations to be equal to KT dfη where K is Boltzmann´s constant, T is the effective temperature of the antenna, df is the bandwidth, and η is the antenna efficiency. This paper provides an alternative method of calculating the noise power available from any wire antenna in terms of the network parameters of the antenna alone. This provides a clear physical understanding of how the output noise power is built up from contributions of the noise voltages applied across different segments of any wire antenna placed in a noise field.
