Abstract
Reports indicate that the occurrence of fraud in the UK has more than doubled in 2004 to a total of over #700 M. The majority of frauds were perpetrated by, or with the help from, employees, with procurement fraud being the most favored method. This paper provides some tips on how to combat fraud by explaining how fraudsters get away so easily. It describes several common failures that contribute towards the ease with which procurement fraudster can strike, and enumerates five common warning signs that should help in detecting payment/kick backs. It also discusses what motivates people to commit fraud, and provides several suggestions when there is suspicion of fraud.
