Abstract
For magnetostatic field analysis a penalty formulation is used, whereby it is assumed that the source currents are inside a bounded domain with known boundary conditions. For eddy current analysis a penalty formulation is used for the insulator only. This formulation can easily be coupled with that of the conductors. There is no need to define cutting planes in multiply connected non-conductive regions for the calculation of a total magnetic scalar potential or to determine a source field
