PCS in the US and Europe

It is argued that Europe is well ahead of the US in spectrum identification, standards development, and equipment deployment for personal communication networks (PCNs). However, the very speed with which wireless activities vaulted the Europeans into prominence has caused the process to outrun the marketplace, the realities of which have slowed the process. In the US, the pace of PCN deployment will speed up now that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has selected the spectrum location and has promised a fast track for the rulemaking. The progress made over the last three years in the US and Europe in wireless communications and, specifically PCNs are discussed.<>
