Abstract
This paper introduces a novel way of building transformer cores using consolidated stacks of electrical steel to reduce construction times without causing an increase in the core losses. The novel core design introduced in this paper can exhibit lower power loss than the conventional cores by taking advantage of the high anisotropy of grain-oriented electrical steels and reducing the flux along the transverse direction of the steel. Open circuit tests and thermal imaging techniques were used to assess the performance of the cores
