Abstract
A small coil pitch is necessary if the number of coil turns is to be increased without lengthening the magnetic yoke and decreasing head efficiency. The performance of a 25-turn thin-film head with a fine coil pitch of 5.5 ¿m is described, comparing it with a 16-turn, 7 ¿m pitch head. The head with the finer coil pitch had better current saturation and overwrite characteristics, and the recording density characteristic was nearly the same as for the 16-turn head.
