Abstract
In narrow-track single pole-type (SPT) perpendicular magnetic heads, the magnetic domain structure in the main pole film affects overall performance. The relation between closure domains in Co-Zr-Nb amorphous main-pole films and the reproduction sensitivity of the head was studied. It was found that for narrow track widths and low film Hk values, the proportion of closure domains increases, and reproduction sensitivities fall off. In films with the Hk value optimum for the track width, the sensitivity is nearly constant, as is the proportion of closure domains 2 h/W, at 0.3 to 0. 4.
