Abstract :
The effects of performing annealing in a magnetic field after magneto resistive (MR) element formation in yoke-type MR heads were studied. It was found that the annealing temperature range in which an amorphous alloy with high permeability is obtained was close to 440-450°C. The fine stripe MR element formed before the amorphous alloy film is affected by annealing in a magnetic field. At a film thickness of 300 Å, as annealing temperature increased, anisotropy was dispersed. The experiment demonstrated conclusively that it is possible to realize high-permeability amorphous alloy film yoke-type MR heads.
