Abstract :
Thyristor-based HVDC converter technology is used for highly reliable power transfer across natural or national boundaries or between AC systems designed for different frequencies or incompatible frequency controls. The author discusses the benefits of HVDC transmission and describes HVDC transmission system configurations. The author then describes the use of thyristors in HVDC converters
