Abstract
The radio proximity fuse was a British invention and dates from 1940. No learned society paper or substantial publication appears to have been written on the history of the British fuse. The author presents the early history of the radio fuse with an emphasis on the British developments. The paper is based in the main on unpublished primary written source documents held in the Public Record Office Kew, UK
