Abstract
Three-dimensional, kinetic and chemical nonequilibrium effects in a high-pressure, high-intensity transferred arc are simulated as the arc is exposed to cold gas flow parallel to the anode. The calculated temperatures and species number density distributions are qualitatively consistent with experimental charged-coupled device images. The predicted anode arc root position and total anode heat transfer are also in reasonable agreement with measured values.
