Abstract
Low-voltage feeder pillars and cutouts are a fundamental part of most public and surprisingly many private distribution networks. The requirements and standards for feeder pillars have advanced considerably in the last ten years, and continue to do so. The author describes how the need for much improved operator safety, fewer restrictions in operation and more flexibility in use, has had and continues to have considerable influence on feeder pillar designs.<>
