Abstract
An overview is given of the Iridium, satellite-based personal communications system, which will bring cellular telephone service to virtually every point on the globe. Iridium will use low-earth-orbit satellites. Some of the key system-level considerations that have driven the design are highlighted. The services offered by Iridium are described, and some market projections are given.<>
