Abstract :
A dynamic tracking system without a brush and a slip ring using a moving-magnetic actuator and eddy current sensors was developed for home use videotape recorders (VTRs). The dynamic tracking system was driven in a wide range by the actuator and positioned accurately by the sensors. The actuator had high sensitivity and could keep a stable contact between magnetic tape and heads, allowing for a large travel of ±1 mm. The eddy current sensors are described. The tracking system realized noiseless playback at nine times forward speed and reverse speed on VHS format VTRs
