Abstract :
Scanners are common computer peripherals. The authors describe a linear sensor for scanners generating high resolution, photographic quality, and colorimetrically correct data at high speed. The sensor consists of three independent charge-coupled-device (CCD) imagers, one for each of the three colors, integrated on a single die. The scanner´s 2035 active pixels can yield 500 dpi across a 4 inch field, sufficient for cropping and zooming of photographic prints. Sensitivity is very high, providing true 9 bit data at more than 2 Mbyte/s with modest illumination. Color reproduction was excellent, accurately sensing hue over a wide gamut
