Abstract
The calculation of forces and torques in an induction machine is sensitive to the distortion of the finite element mesh. Two different air gap regions are used to calculate the torque. One is in an actual induction motor where the results can be compared to experimental data. The other is an idealized round stator and rotor that can be compared to closed form analytic solutions. In each case, the torque calculation is seen to be dependent upon mesh shape
