Abstract :
Results of field tests carried out on a 132 kV 410 km radial power system in Western Australia are presented and discussed. Algebraic expressions which relate loads to voltage and frequency variations are derived from results of small disturbance tests. The excitation system representation of a gas-turbine within the supply area has been improved by matching the results of simulation studies with generator response measured during capacitor switching tests. The line switching and three-phase fault tests considered provide a further check on the derived load and generator models. The simple algebraic load representation is shown to be inadequate for the purpose of studying such large disturbances. A composite load model, consisting of motor and voltage sensitive components, is adopted. The simulation results obtained correlate favourably with the test measurements
