Abstract
The single-phase line start synchronous motor (SPLSSM) has the rib and bridge structure designed to saturate easily. Because the hysteresis loop can be large and affect motor performance, the hysteresis loss and resulting torque performance have to be exactly calculated. In the paper, we investigate the hysteresis loss and torque of SPLSSM by using the finite element method (FEM) combined with mathematical Preisach modeling. The hysteresis effect and loss are successfully analyzed. The torque performance difference between the hysteresis analysis model and the nonlinear analysis model is quantitatively made clear in this work.
