  • Abstract
A new (patented) system of transducerless magnetic suspension (TRAMSS) using controlled DC electromagnets is described. Unique features of this system are that it has inherently stable force-distance characteristics, has PID control and the derivative of position signal required for control of damping is not obtained by electronic differentiation. It is believed that the system offers even greater reliability and obviously can operate in environments of much higher temperatures than has been possible hitherto. This could, therefore, open up applications for magnetic bearings not considered before
