Abstract
In Poland, a university is an art and science oriented institution and has no engineering college or engineering departments. Instead, programs of study in engineering are offered by other academic institutions: technical universities (also referred to as universities of technology or polytechnic institutes), technical academies, and engineering colleges. There are 22 engineering schools in Poland, all but one are state-owned. Higher education in Poland is, in principle, free-of-charge. Economic transformations following the political changes of 1989 have had an impact on the system of higher education in Poland. To adapt to the new environment, many academic institutions have significantly changed their organization and curricula. We illustrate this process with the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at Warsaw University of Technology as our example
