Abstract
Layered charged aerosol clouds may be beneficially used for electrostatic spraying of large areas with less drift of the substance aerosolized in the lower layer. In such systems, it is recommended that an upper charged water aerosol layer be formed. The upper layer has the dual function of enhancing the deposition from the layer and providing clean water for the unavoidable drift. A sample calculation shows that an aerosol cloud containing 29 000 particles/m3 of 20-µm diameter, and 1.8 x 10-12 C charge/particle, will deposit 87 percent of its mass in 4 s.
