Abstract
Basic studies were performed to investigate the feasibility of multitrack recording. It was confirmed that the side-writing and side-erasing effects of a single-pole type perpendicular magnetic head are negligibly small. It was also found that the perpendicular head possesses uniform reproduce sensitivity in the track width direction of the main pole. These results show that perpendicular recording is suitable for multitrack recording and full-track reproduction using multilevel recording.
