Abstract
The theory of operation and design of a modular changeable message electrostatic display system is described. An electrically grounded, mechanically bistable vane is the basic display element, and its motion is controlled using electrostatic forces developed by the application of high voltages to an arrangement of control electrodes. The construction of a prototype system is described, and some of the electrostatic design aspects are discussed.
