Abstract
An operating model of a microprocessor-based system for use in electrical substations is described. The control system performs substation control functions important in continuous process industries¿ automatic transfer and sequential reacceleration of motors following short duration voltage outputs. The system provides an interface for load shedding and motor control, and has several useful data-gathering features. The model has been rigorously tested using a simulator which mimics substation input/output signals in real time. Performance capabilities and security/reliability aspects of both hardware and software are discussed with reference to conventional hardwired schemes.
