  • Abstract
An antenna system that combines reflectarray and conventional reflector technology is suggested for multi-band, multi-polarisation applications. This hybrid technology gives rise to the significant simplification of the feed system and relaxation of filtering requirements. The suggested design does not introduce additional volumetric requirements in comparison to equivalent conventional antenna systems. The proposed system is capable of maintaining mutually independent radiation patterns for each of its operating bands. A prototype that consists of a conventional Ku-band offset reflector and a Ka-band reflectarray was designed, fabricated, and tested. Close to 60% and 40% aperture efficiencies were realised in the lower and upper bands, respectively. The design procedure and experimental results are presented.
