Abstract
Designs for synchronous optical TDM switching fabrics are introduced that can be implemented using semiconductor laser amplifier switches or any on/off switch technology. Their performance is compared, and one architecture, which can be built up on large silicon substrates, is highlighted. The issues of switch count, passive coupler count, control complexity, attenuation and noise buildup are considered
