Abstract :
For satellite TV applications, a set of four new integrated circuits was developed to improve the overall performance of the RF front-end, the video and sound IF processing, and to simultaneously drastically reduce the number of external components. This four-IC concept for the indoor unit consists of (1) a 2.3-GHz PLL (phase-locked loop) controlled by I2C-bus; (2) a 480-MHz FM-IF (intermediate frequency) limiting amplifier-demodulator with field strength and AFC outputs; (3) a video circuit for video processing and sound output; and (4) a multistandard sound IF circuit which contains a PLL-controlled sound IF converter and three parallel FM limiting amplifiers followed by demodulators for the different sound IF frequencies
