Abstract :
A DFB TX laser in a 40 Gbit/s optical transmission system is amplitude-modulated by 1.2% (r.m.s.). In the presence of chromatic dispersion, associated 224 MHz (r.m.s.) FM modulates signal arrival time, which is measured by lock-in detection of oscillator control voltage in RX clock recovery. Chromatic dispersion measurement noise is 33 fs/nm
