Abstract :
Tapping of HVDC power transmission lines to serve intermediate loads or to pick up dispersed generation has always presented formidable technical and economic challenges to transmission planners and to system designers. These challenges have been particularly daunting when the power rating of the tap is small compared to that of the main terminals. This document provides transmission planners with various factors which need to be considered in evaluating the feasibility of tapping existing HVDC transmission lines or in developing alternatives for potential new transmission schemes
