Abstract
A method for utilizing remote hydro generation to restart a major coal-fired generating station is described. The author documents a comprehensive black start project. It includes considerations for a black start project, details of an analytical study, identification of critical factors, development and implementation of an actual black start test, comparison of field tests with the simulation results, and the required system modifications identified during the project
